Why Should We Refrain from Supporting Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump for the Presidency

The Economy

The United States currently enjoys a strong economy with a record-breaking stock market and low inflation. However, while the financial markets are performing well, many Americans are still experiencing high prices for essential goods, including groceries, which is causing a significant financial burden. The perception that the government is responsible for these rising costs is widespread, but it’s important to understand the true causes.

The high prices are not the result of the Biden/Harris administration's policies, but rather a combination of post-COVID supply chain disruptions and corporate price gouging. A bipartisan bill to address this issue was introduced but blocked by the Republican Party, representing a clear barrier to justice and fairness. Donald Trump's economic proposal, which includes imposing large and widespread tariffs, is likely to exacerbate the situation by increasing the cost of consumer goods.

Every major economist has warned that a second term for Donald Trump would have a markedly negative impact on the economy. Furthermore, the Republican Party has shown their intention to undermine social safety nets such as Social Security and Medicare, which could result in significant financial harm to citizens.

The Border

The recent bipartisan border bill was developed and ready to be passed, but Donald Trump intervened, pressuring Congress to block it. His primary motive was to ensure no successes for the Biden Administration during his term. This intervention highlights the ongoing political stalemate on crucial issues like border security and the rights of immigrants.

It is crucial to recognize that the United States is dealing with complex and urgent border issues, which require a pragmatic and collaborative approach. Blocking such legislation is not in the best interest of national security or the well-being of those seeking refuge and asylum.

Foreign and Domestic Policies

Donald Trump's actions on the global stage have been controversial and damaging. His provision of essential medical supplies to dictators like Putin, such as ventilators and testing equipment, during the height of the pandemic, has been a significant moral and humanitarian failure. Additionally, he has publicly criticized friends and allies, such as Ukraine, for standing against Russia, thereby destabilizing global alliances.

Domestically, Trump's approach has been equally concerning. His rhetoric and actions have aimed at undermining the democratic institutions of the country, including a willingness to use military force against ordinary citizens who disagree with him. This authoritarian vision of governance is deeply troubling and should be a key consideration as we vote.

Destructive Lies

Donald Trump's persistent and malicious lies have caused significant harm to Americans. The spread of misinformation about federal emergency assistance programs, such as FEMA, has led to some Americans refusing necessary aid, ultimately exacerbating the impact of disasters. The 2020 election fraud lie continues to be repeated, sowing distrust in our democratic institutions and creating a climate of fear and paranoia.

Furthermore, trump’s derogatory and false statements about immigrant communities, such as labeling Haitians in Ohio as “illegals,” have created an atmosphere of fear and hostility. This kind of rhetoric not only disregards the humanity of affected communities but also contributes to systemic discrimination and violence.

Conclusion

As voters, we must take a moment to reflect on what we want the future of our country to look like. Supporting a candidate who has demonstrated a willingness to undermine democratic principles, exacerbate economic inequality, and dehumanize communities is not consistent with the values that have shaped our nation. Voter education and informed decision-making are essential to shaping a better, more equitable future.
