A friend captured the haunting atmosphere of the tunnel with photographs,documenting a disturbing finding—within one of the photos, the image of a black man, possibly one of the accident victims, appears hauntingly clear.

The development of these images captured a spectral figure dressed in tattered, greasy clothing, a chilling reminder of the tunnel's tragic past. Despite years having passed, the ghostly encounter remains a vivid memory for those who have seen these photographs. As we ventured further into the dirt crawlway, my flashlight suddenly revealed a pair of snarling eyes just ahead. A massive porcupine, about two feet in length, appeared directly in front of me. In a burst of adrenaline, I retreated at full speed, managing to back out of the cave in a hurried and somewhat dramatic manner.

My wife, unaffected by the quill threat, was more focused on capturing the moment. She used a video camera to record the encounter, which included a stunning face-to-face shot with the porcupine. The video showcases the porcupine's immediate retreat and my frantic withdrawal. The experience was so intense that we never dared to explore the cave again, allowing the porcupine to reserve its territory as the sole cave inhabitant.
