Solo Travel Adventures: An English Perspective

As an English traveler with extensive experience, taking on solo adventures has been a significant part of my life. From multiple visits to America, Europe, Morocco, and Israel to meeting new people and exploring history, I have always enjoyed the independence and adventure that solo travel brings.

Global Experiences

Over the years, I have ventured to America a staggering ten times and over three decades to Europe. Each trip offered a unique blend of experiences, which often included shopping, dining out, visiting bars, and art museums. These repeated travel experiences have shaped my perspective on solo travel, making it a comforting and adventurous habit.

Morocco, for instance, captured my imagination with its rich history and cultural charm. The country has numerous attractions, including beautiful gardens, old cemeteries, castles, and mysterious stone circles that evoke a sense of old-world charm and adventure. However, although I enjoy exploring historic locales, my safety is a priority, and I tend to avoid late-night activities alone.

Special Solo Adventures

Back in my 20s during the 1990s, I had the unique experience of working in a summer camp in the United States. This was a memorable time, and I went for three consecutive summers, each filled with exciting adventures and personal growth. This experience further solidified my love for traveling solo, especially when I wanted to experience new places deeply and fully.

Traveling to the UK and Paris on my own was a stark contrast but equally enriching. While in the UK, I cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats, a journey that tested my endurance and connected me with the country's diverse landscapes and weather. This trip was a solo effort, but I often met up with people during my journeys.

Preferred Travel Companions

I have a preference for traveling with someone else, sharing experiences and creating memories together. However, there are situations where I am willing to travel solo. For instance, if I had a strong personal connection to a place and didn't want to visit with others, I would still consider it.

A current example of this is my desire to travel to Canada, a country with numerous relatives, friends, and a rich history. If no one else was willing to come, I would go on my own because of the cultural and personal ties I have with the region.

Other places like Ireland, Scotland, and Germany hold special significance for me due to my personal connections and cultural ties. I have lived in Germany for a considerable part of my life and speak the language, which makes it even more meaningful to visit.

Previous Grand Solo Expedition

More than a decade ago, I embarked on a comprehensive journey that involved traveling from Istanbul to Sofia, through the Balkans, and eventually to Munich. From there, I made my way to Budapest, where my father joined me, and Prague. Subsequently, I visited Germany and flew home, looping back to London to stay with a friend before traveling to Vienna. In Vienna, I met my now wife and embarked on a trip to her native Estonia before making my way home. This extensive travel experience has left a lasting impact and is a testament to the spirit and independence that solo travel can offer.

I also spent considerable time traveling solo in Latin America. Although I was not always alone, the travel enabled me to meet a variety of new people and forge lasting friendships with individuals from various parts of the continent.

Currently, I mostly travel with my partner, valuing the shared experiences and memories. However, my experiences with solo travel have shaped my approach to personal and cultural exploration, making me more adaptable and open to new adventures both solo and with others.
