What Does Revelation 21:4 Mean?
Revelation 21:4 speaks of a period when God's kingdom will bring an end to all suffering by ridding the earth of war, hunger, sickness, and injustice. It promises a restored paradise, as intended from the beginning of human history. This article explores the meanings of these key terms and provides a glimpse into the glory that is prophesied to come.
New Heavens
The term New Heavens refers to a new government that will establish righteous conditions on earth. This new governance will bring about a society of people who submit to God's rulership and live by His righteous standards.
New Earth
A corresponding key is the concept of New Earth. This represents a society of people living under God's throne, embodying righteousness and supporting His divine plan. It is a fulfillment of the promise that those who submit to God’s will will inherit a happy, peaceful, and just world.
All Things New
The phrase all things new emphasizes that both physical and spiritual suffering will be replaced by joy and abundance. Prophetic texts like Revelation 21 describe a world where there will no longer be sorrow, pain, or any kind of struggle. This is the ultimate restoration, not only for the body but also for the mind and soul.
New Jerusalem
The New Jerusalem is a symbolic representation of the group of Jesus' followers who will rule with Him in God's Kingdom. According to Revelation 5:10, this city will be a beacon of light and life, governed by the principles of righteousness and justice.
A Glance into the Future
The New Heavens and New Earth described in Revelation 21:4 are more than just symbolic. They represent a tangible promise that God's will will be fully realized, bringing an end to the cycle of suffering and leading humanity to a state of perfection. The ultimate goal is to restore the world to its intended condition, a land where war and injustice are no longer a reality.
Revelation 21:23-24, 26-27 describes the beauty of the New Jerusalem. It will not need the sun or the moon to shine, for the glory of God and the Lamb will provide all the necessary light. The nations and kings of the earth will walk by its light and bring their glory into it, while only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life are allowed entry.
Understanding these prophetic scriptures takes us on a journey of faith. While we may not know when this glorious era will begin, we can prepare ourselves by aligning our lives with God's will and spreading His message of hope and righteousness.
