Journey to Ukraine: A Harrowing Night with an Earthquake

One of my most memorable hotel experiences happened during a conference in Ukraine. I was staying on the 11th floor of a hotel when an earthquake struck at one in the morning. It was a terrifying moment as the building began to shake vigorously. I thought my end had come when the ground rocked beneath me.

The earthquake originated from the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, and it was a rare and powerful event that shook the entire hotel. Amidst the chaos, I noticed that the housekeepers in the hallway were giggling. It was only later, in my room, that I realized they were the source of my initial surprise. My laptop screen saver, which displayed intimate pictures of my wife and me, was accidentally activated.

Apparently, one of the housekeepers had bumped my laptop, waking it up. Because it was secured with a screen saver, the unexpected pictures caused quite a stir among the housekeepers. I was embarrassed but managed to slip past them unnoticed when it was time to attend the conference.

A Nudist Shock in Paris

Another noteworthy experience came during a trip to Paris. I checked into a large hotel, expecting a comfortable stay. Unbeknownst to me, the hotel was vast, and I found myself on the 4th floor despite the early check-in time. I gently opened the door to my suite, and to my shock, discovered a man in the bathroom, completely naked and busy with something private.

It was a moment of pure embarrassment, especially as I was carrying a rollaboard with my briefcase on top. The man was startled and quickly tried to cover himself with a comforter. The situation was chaotic, and I exited the room as gracefully as possible. I then reported the incident to the front desk, who, understanding the awkwardness, promptly upgraded my room further, turning a potentially embarrassing moment into a positive one for me.
