Hiding from rangers is great fun, but really, you should just go there. At the Guide Office, you will find your answers. Before you go down into Yosemite, there are several places up on the rim that can give you good advice. You will truly love Yosemite. Give it several days. It's really fun to camp out there. Key Tourist Attractions in Yosemite

The best things to do in Yosemite are to see are El Capitan, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and Bridalveil Falls. There are plenty of other places I would highly recommend you see, including tall mountains, beautiful lakes, and lush meadows. You can read more about these places here.

Yosemite Valley Tourist Tips

Yosemite Valley is the center of the park and is world famous. It is the heart of the park, but it's easy to get overwhelmed by the crowds and traffic. During peak tourist season, private vehicles can have a hard time accessing the valley, and parking can be nearly impossible. The park may even stop access to the valley during peak times if it gets too crowded. Your best bet during these months is to take an open-air bus tour of the valley or use the free shuttle buses the park provides. If you arrive by private vehicle, park it at your lodging, campground, or the main parking area in Yosemite Village.

Alternative Activities and Destinations

Instead of focusing solely on Yosemite Valley, consider other top destinations like Glacier Point or the Mariposa Grove of sequoia trees. Glacier Point is best reached via park bus due to road closures during the winter months. The Mariposa Grove is also accessed by bus from a nearby large parking area. However, these locations can also experience localized crowding during peak tourist season.

Tioga Road and Other Outdoor Hiking Opportunities

Tioga Road, which opens from May or June to early November, offers beautiful views and peaceful hiking opportunities. Some great hikes include the East shoreline of Tenaya Lake, May Lake, Lembert Dome, and Gaylor Lakes. These hikes provide a great way to avoid crowds and explore the high country of Yosemite.

Unique Areas in Yosemite

The Hetch Hetchy area is often overlooked but can be a peaceful and uncrowded option, especially during the early part of the spring snowmelt. While camping and lodging are not available here, it's a great spot for a low-key visit. Hetch Hetchy has unique features, including a flooded valley that was once a historical site and is now a seasonal campsite.

Notes for Park Visitors

Be aware that it is illegal to leave food in your vehicle overnight due to the risk of bears. The park provides bear lockers for storing food if you need to park overnight or if you have a hotel room, you can leave your food there. Even things that look like food, such as paper bags, coolers, or empty food containers, can attract bears. Bears have an extremely good sense of smell, so it's important to avoid leaving food residues in your vehicle.

Cultural Considerations and Language Tips
