The best neighborhood in Oviedo is the center area from Calle Rio San Pedro and "Ruta de los vinos" to Plaza America. It is very big and has good apartments. People in this area live around beautiful places and are very close to everything.

Oviedo is overall an extremely safe city. The most affluent areas are the city center, between San Francisco Park and Plaza de America, also known as the golden mile "Milla de Oro". These areas are around the Reconquista Hotel, where high-end boutiques and traditional guilds are everywhere. Another affluent area is La Florida, a newer area in the west side of the city, which is the richest area, with professional middle-class young families.

La Corredoria used to be a humble area of the city but most recent developments have transformed it to the standard of La Florida. The working-class barrio of Vallobin, between La Florida and La Argaosa, has most recently attracted young middle-class professionals due to new construction blocks of flats. La Ería and Porticos near the stadium are also good areas, with Plaza Pedro Mior being very popular for dining and nightlife.

Most students tend to live in the surroundings of Campus del Milán or el Cristo. These are cheaper areas, but the buildings are less modern and they're not an unsafe area. Ventanielles and El Campillín used to be the most notably conflictive areas due to gypsy settlements and prostitution. However, in the last 15 years, the situation has changed radically. I wouldn’t live nearby the streets off El Campillín, such as Mon Street or the Dark Street Oscura, as it will be highly unlikely to catch any sleep during the weekend.
