Exploring Boston: A Cyclist’s Paradise and the Secret Charm of The Sevens Ale House
A Cyclist’s Journey Through Boston
Riding a bicycle through Allston into Harvard Square down Mass Ave into Central Square across the Harvard Bridge, and turning left onto Comm Ave, culminates in a pleasant cruise down Comm Ave to arrive at the Boston Common for a nap on the grass — ideally on a warm July afternoon. After living there for 12 years, this route became a cherished memory filled with joy and adventure.
The Freedom Trail and Other Attractions
Of course, there were numerous other activities I enjoyed during my time in Boston. The iconic Freedom Trail was one of the must-see landmarks, offering a historical journey with its well-preserved 16th- and 17th-century buildings. Visiting the Maparium provided access to a visually stunning display of maps, charting the city's history and evolution over the centuries.
Red Sox Baseball and Stroll on Newbury Street
Another treasured experience was attending a Red Sox baseball game. The energy and excitement in Fenway Park are unparalleled, adding to the sports lover's experience. Strolling down Newbury Street was also a delightful activity, lined with charming boutique stores, gourmet coffee shops, and vibrant street life.
Concerts on the Esplanade and The Sevens Ale House
For those who enjoy live music, concerts on the Esplanade became a regular spot for me. The setting along the Charles River created a serene atmosphere, enhancing the enjoyment of musical performances. However, there was one activity that truly stood out and remains a personal favorite: visiting The Sevens Ale House on 77 Charles Street.
The Sevens Ale House: A Hidden Gem
Located just a stone's throw away from the Bull Finch Pub, which is often mistaken for the real "Cheers," The Sevens Ale House is the true inspiration for Boston's beloved Cheers. It has been featured in Condé Nast Traveller as a must-visit bar for anyone who appreciates the city's rich history and vibrant nightlife. After work, it was a common habit of mine to kick back, play darts, and meet new friends.
At The Sevens Ale House, I met a diverse and interesting group of people ranging from young professionals, or 'yuppies,' to dock workers, students, and seasoned locals. This eclectic mix of individuals not only made my time there memorable but also enriched my understanding of the city's multifaceted culture. Over the years, even though the pub has evolved, it still holds a special place in my heart for its friendly atmosphere and the stories it shares.
A Return to Boston: The Sevens Ale House Remains a Top Prioritization
When I return to Boston, The Sevens Ale House remains my top priority. The pub's unpretentious charm and welcoming environment continue to offer a unique and engaging experience. Whether I'm playing darts with friends or simply taking a moment to relax, The Sevens Ale House always reminds me of the joyous and diverse community that Boston has to offer.
