Writing everything down is the first step. Use a digital calendar or a physical planner to keep track of all the important dates and activities. Whether it's school events, sports practices, or doctor's appointments, making a to-do list can help ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Additionally, prepare your meals in advance. Mondays can be designated as your cook days, focusing on making multiple meals to save time during the rest of the week. This approach not only saves time but also ensures that everyone eats a balanced and nutritious diet.
2. Don't Rely Solely on Technology
While technology can be a great asset, it's important to have physical copies of your schedule as well. I keep a planner in my purse and a wall calendar in the house. This helps ensure that everyone in the family is on the same page and understands our schedule. It might seem like a burden, but it can prevent misunderstandings and ensure that no activity is forgotten.

For us, the key priorities are nutritious foods, clean laundry and dishes, completed homework, and practice of musical instruments. If everything is not spotless, we can let the living room be a bit messy. The idea is to focus on what truly matters and maintain a balanced approach.
5. Week-by-Week and Day-by-Day Planning
Sometimes, the best approach is to plan things on a day-by-day basis. Last week, for example, was exceptionally busy. We managed to juggle four play practices, five days of basketball games, one last-minute service call, a veterinary visit, four doctor's visits, one youth group event, and two homework assignments due that week. This required a lot of flexibility and focus on what was most important. By taking things one step at a time and focusing on maintaining everyone's health and rest, we were able to stay organized.
6. Don't Be Afraid to Say No
It's important to know your limits and be willing to say no to additional commitments. We have busy schedules, and while participating in all activities is nice, it's not necessary. It's okay to let go of some things to prioritize more important matters. Saying no doesn't make you less of a parent or a less dedicated individual.
7. Schedule Date Nights and Days
Family bonding is just as important as managing schedules. We make time for date nights and days. While these might not be frequent, they are important for reconnecting as a couple and setting the tone for a successful week. Whether it's a simple lunch date or a day out, these moments help us stay connected and refreshed.
