A Passion for Travel: A Journey Through Life and Adventures

Travel has been a cherished aspect of life for many, and it is no different for those who have made it their profession. From a travel agent in their earlier years to a seasoned traveler, this article explores the frequency, destinations, and experiences that come with a love for traveling.

From Agent to Explorer

From my mid-twenties till my mid-seventies, I was a travel agent for over twenty years. As a travel agent, I traveled extensively and was able to witness a significant portion of our globe. This experience not only honed my skills as a travel professional but also nurtured a deep love for exploring new destinations. However, as the years passed, my traveling days transitioned into a more relaxed phase, spending my golden years in a Florida retirement home. While my travel days are over, the memories of those travels continue to keep me engaged and inspired.

Now in my 80's, I enjoy the comfort and tranquility of my retirement home in Florida, USA. But the memories of my extensive travels across the globe still spark my curiosity and desire for new experiences. This journey has taught me the value of adventure and the importance of making the most of every opportunity to explore.

A Passion for Travel

Traveling more than ten times a year is not rare for me, especially if I am a trekking guide. This profession brings me to some of the most cherished travel destinations, such as Nepal. Trekking through the scenic landscapes of Nepal offers a unique and memorable experience for both the guide and the travelers. While trekking, one can enjoy the natural beauty, meet local cultures, and immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the region. Nepal’s diverse topography and cultural tapestry make it a favorite destination for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Flexibility and Adventure Despite Challenges

Although traveling can be challenging due to time and financial constraints, I still make the effort to travel as often as possible. Every year, I take a few trips, whether they are short weekend getaways or longer vacations. These trips are not just a form of leisure but also an opportunity to explore and learn about new cultures and places. Additionally, traveling for work poses a unique advantage as it allows me to combine my passion for writing with the thrill of discovering new destinations. The freedom to document these experiences through my writing provides a sense of fulfillment and connections to readers.

Pandemic and Beyond

The pandemic has certainly affected travel patterns. Since November 1, 2021, I have been starting my third trip, which includes a cruise, a trip to Walt Disney World, and soon leaving for Germany. It is important to remain flexible, and the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions can make plans subject to alteration. However, the reduced crowds make it a more enjoyable experience. Before the pandemic, I would cross the border to neighboring Johor Bahru, Malaysia, once or twice a week, and travel to Kuala Lumpur and somewhere else once a year. Since mid-March 2020, the pandemic has curtailed most overseas travel, but I still wander around the city-state at least twice a week, enjoying the local culture and experiences.

Favorite Destinations

In addition to my professional travels, I have a fondness for certain destinations. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, my mother took me to Vienna, Austria, and we lived in Rome, Italy, where I explored the northern regions and visited Naples and its islands, as well as Palermo in Sicily. These early experiences with travel have instilled a deep appreciation for different cultures and a love for exploring new places. My current travels, whether for work or leisure, often take me to exciting destinations such as Texas, Cancun, and Chicago, where I attend events like the Chicago International Film Festival. I even consider the possibility of extended stays for medical treatments, such as proton radiation therapy at Northwestern’s cancer center.

Traveling enriches our lives in countless ways, offering new perspectives, creating unforgettable memories, and fostering personal growth. For me, travel continues to be a cherished part of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunities it provides to embark on new adventures.
