options here permit you to take a folder of images and arrange them as thumbnails on a page, greatly expediting the creation of image catalogs. You specify the location of the folder, the number of columns and rows in the grid, and the color mode, and Photoshop does the rest. You also have the ability to look into folders in the specified folder (very useful) and label image thumbnails according to their file names (even more useful). You can even select the typeface and type size for the labels from

Figure 18-16 shows the result of applying the settings from Figure 18-15, with a few elements I added later by hand. With a little work after the fact, Contact Sheet II is a great choice for creating full photo

Photoshop CS introduces some useful improvements to the Contact Sheet II command. As with the other automated functions, the command is now fully accessible directly from the File Browser. Likewise, you can set Contact Sheet II to create a contact sheet from selected images in the File Browser, instead of from an entire folder. In previous editions of this book, I asked for more control over spacing in a contact sheet. Photoshop CS delivers by giving you the ability to turn off AutoSpacing and manually enter Vertical and Horizontal spacing values instead. Finally, the Thumbnails section of the dialog box now includes a useful new Rotate For Best Fit check box that automatically rotates the images to make better use of the available space. Creating a picture package In addition to Contact Sheet II, Photoshop offers two other commands under the File® Automate submenu that organize multiple images onto a single page. The first of these is called Picture Package. Originally designed for printing multiple copies of an image in different sizes on one page, the Picture Package command can now fill a page with multiple copies of multiple images scaled to common print sizes such as 5'7 inches, 4'5 inches, and wallet snapshots. If youre a photographer, or you simply want to print some pictures of the kids for Grandma, this command does it all. After choosing a layout from the Layout menu, you can replace any image in the layout with a different one by clicking the image thumbnail in the preview to bring up the Select an Image File dialog box. In Photoshop CS, you can replace any image also by dragging it in from your desktop and dropping it on top of another image.
The Label section of the Picture Package dialog box, shown in Figure 18-17, lets you add text to your image. The options are pretty self-explanatory, but its worth pointing out that the Custom Text option box keeps you from having to quit the Picture Package command to jump over to Fije® File Info just so

Photoshop CS introduces the capability to create and edit custom layouts for the Picture Package command. Click the Edit Layout button (shown in Figure 18-17) to display the Picture Package Edit Layout dialog box, shown in Figure 18-18. From the Layout section of this dialog box, you can create a template that sets a custom Name, Page Size, Width, and Height for the picture package. But the real power of the new Edit Layout command is the ability to completely rearrange or even create from scratch a template that sets the actual positions and sizes of the images in your picture

package.
Figure 18-18: Photoshop CS gives you total control over the scale and position of the images in a picture package.
By default, the Picture Package Edit Layout dialog box opens with the most recently selected layout template on display. To alter the layout, just click on one of the instances of the image, or image zones as Photoshop calls them, and drag it around the window. As soon as an image zone is selected, you gain access to handles that let you scale it. You can also manually enter the Size and Position values for each individual zone in the Width, Height, X, and Y option boxes. The buttons in the Image Zone section of the dialog box let you add and remove zones at will. You can even place image zones on top of each other! Finally, the Grid section is where you specify whether or not the image zones snap to a grid and, if so, the size of the boxes within the grid. Click Save to save your new layout template as a text file or overwrite an existing template. Creating a Web Photo Gallery Again geared toward professional and aspiring photographers, the Web Photo Gallery command assembles a folder or selected group of images into a Web site, complete with HTML pages and JPEG images. In the Web Photo Gallery dialog box, shown in Figure 18-19, first select a page style from the Styles pop-up menu. The preview on the right side of the dialog box shows a sample page created using that style. You can also enter an e-mail contact. You can make further design choices by selecting the various items in the Options pop-up menu. For each item, you get a different set of
