5 has been used for the synthesis of tuberiferine33 [the (S)-5 enantiomer would be required for the natural compound] and for the synthesis of isocostic and 3-oxoisocostic acid34 [(R)-5 required]. From racemic 6, both cc-vetispirene35 (S,S) and frullanolide36 (R,R) have been synthesized.
